“We study and defend public transportation”

In addition to the promotion of public transport, PTP is known by its exhaustive studies and proposals. To reach public transport improvements, strong technical reasons and perseverance is needed. Since 1993 PTP is commited to lots of sustainable mobility projects.

We promote express buses

2.2.2.0We promete express buses in order to make the public transport more competitive at suburban corridors, with coordination with railways, not to compete with them. We coordinated several public authorities (Mancomunitat de Municipis de la Vall del Tenes, Diputació de Barcelona and Government of Catalonia) to create the first “Bus Exprés” line in Catalonia with traffic light priority, semi-direct stops and park&ride. The current e7 line is a story of success.

We advocate for motorway bus lanes

2.2.2.bWe aim to adapt the road network to public transport instead of only thinking in private vehicles. We have pioneered the defence of buses running over high capacity motorways, with dedicated bus lanes or conversion of the current lanes into HOV (high occupation vehicles) only. The upcoming bus lane on the B-23 road is the most illustrative example, as the HOV lane reform in road C-58.

We defend a railway orientated to everyday mobility

2.2.3Since 2000 decade, PTP is reporting the progressive abandonment of conventional railways, even when only petitions for inauguration of HSL were the topic. With several initiatives, PTP aims to modify a vision of rail transportation purely orientated to infrastructure towards a vision of service oriented to everday mobility, first planning a timetable objectives and then upgrading the infraestructure rationally and constantly. The most important projects are the “Pla Tren 2014” and “TicTacTren” for Catalonia and “Pla Tren 2020” for Spain. PTP has pioneered the defence of Rodalies, the Catalan suburban and regional train service.

We defend more efficient networks of urban and interurban transport networks

2.2.4Due to its accessibility and low operating costs, the bus is the basis of public transportation in all areas, urban and interurban, in global cities and small towns. To reach all their potential users, transport networks must adapt to a double function: a social one, for captive users relying on public transportation, and an environmental one, to compete with the private car. In many cases, the bus network should condition the road infrastructure. PTP reached politicians talking about buses in Barcelona for first time, 1o years ago.

Promotion of the tramway (light rail)

2.2.5.0We defend and promote the tramway to face high mobility demands in certain urban areas, having low implementation costs and allowing to regenerate the urban environment to prioritize public transport. One of the priorities of the association is to complete the tramway network approved in 2001 by the competent public authorities (Government of Catalonia and major city councils from the Barcelona area) by finishing the sections of “Diagonal avenue“, in Barcelona and “Laureà Miró Street” in Esplugues and Sant Just. The association has also promoted tramway projects for the areas of Vallès Occidental (TramVallès) and Camp de Tarragona (TramCamp).

A new financial and pricing policy for mobility

2.2.6PTP advocates for a new financial model for public transport based on a fiscal reform and new financing alternatives that allow increasing both its offer and demand. In 2013, we presented the T-Ambiental travel card, to reduce the grievance that the current system poses into travellers of more than one zone and to support a greater user loyalty.
